About Me
My approach to clinical practice is influenced by my extensive training in Family Systems Theory, Couples' Therapy and Mindfulness based Cognitive/Behavioural Therapy. I believe that a client's therapeutic success is related to feeling safe. I provide an environment that is inclusive, non-judgemental and encourages risk-taking. My approach and interventions are research based and informed by ongoing professional development.
As a Registered Psychologist located in a South Calgary private practice, I have over twenty years of experience supporting my clients to change and grow. My background is in education and masters level marriage and family therapy. I began my career working in some Alberta counselling agencies, Child and Family Services and within Alberta Education. There I provided counselling, was a Lead Teacher in the areas of resilience theory, social/emotional intelligence, brain research and strength-oriented teaching strategies.
As a certified Family Educator, I have designed and delivered workshops for audiences on topics such as body image, relationship skills, resiliency, bereavement, bullying and others. I have frequently been a guest speaker at university counselling programs, presenting to the students on the complexities of providing couple's therapy, preparing for professional practice and more.
Personally, I rejuvenate by creating visual art with various mediums, laughing and sharing with friends and family, experiencing music and being immersed in the awes of nature. I love to learn and deepen my understanding in diverse areas so I invest in this pursuit. I have a special place in my heart for dogs and creatures of all kinds. I believe we are meant to experience joy as human beings and we often forget how. I work with my clients to remember or discover where their joy lies.
